During the second term of the school I had the opportunity to visit the local Blind School. I took that opportunity without even wavering, because it was interesting for me to work and help the blind people.
I remember my first visit there. Seeing all that people who weren’t able to see this beautiful world (and who were still smiling), I thought to myself that how lucky I was and how I should be happy for being who I am.
I had objectives: I wanted talk to them and do something useful like teach them how to use computers.
First day I was thinking that it was going to be really hard for me to communicate with them, and the thought that I wouldn’t be useful for them was making me feel really nervous. But then I saw how lovely and nice people there were, and I realized that it’s not that hard to communicate with people even when they were blind and they didn’t speak English.
Our group started to help the blind people to use computers.Their computers already had a special program installed wit sounds, which made our teaching process a lot easier. We taught them basic things like how to search music in Google and listen to them on YouTube. I was amazed that how fast that could learn everything, and 1 week later they already could search and listen to music by themselves.
I was really happy that I could do something useful and hopefully important for them. Even though the people there were blind but they helped me to open my eyes. I realized that I should appreciate my life, I realized that being blind can’t limit someone’s abilities. We all should love and appreciate our life, doesn’t matter how difficult it can be sometimes.
