I’m doing yoga as my Monday after school activity. Why do I do yoga? The short answer is that yoga makes me feel better. It helps me to reduce the stress and tire that I may have after classes, especially on Mondays. Practicing the postures, breathing exercises and meditation makes me healthier in body, mind and spirit.
What were my aims?
During the Yoga classes I was hoping to gain more flexibility and learn how to manage my stress. I was aiming to see myself developing as a well balanced and principled person.
What difficulties did I encounter?
It was really hard from the beginning as I wasn’t that flexible and couldn’t so all the difficult positions and movements. But as time went on and as I practiced, I started to feel that I became more flexible.
Yoga created a sense of well being in me. After 3 weeks my supervisor told me she see the progress and that I was getting better of doing all the exercises. This encouraged me, so I continued to do in more passionately.
I think that Yoga also helps us to strip away the things that try to mis-define us -- the emotions, sensations, desires, achievements and failures of daily life. Through yoga I learned to develop a greater awareness of my physical and psychological states. As a result, the positions helped me to better manage my reactions to the thoughts, feelings and responses we have to the various situations we deal with every day.
What did I achieve?
In the end of the whole Yoga session which lasted for a month, I was happy that I could meet my targets, and my next target was that I should to continue doing the exercises on my own as well, in order to maintain my well being, developing myself as a principled person.
This activity provided me with an understanding of the importance of intellectual, physical and emotional balance to achieve personal well-being, thus it helped me to become more balanced.
Whether we accept yoga for its spiritual path or physiological benefits, it helps us to develop a deeper experience of ourselves and the world…and it makes us feel really good.
