Me, wearing a traditional Thai outfit |
I love dancing, when I dance I bring out all my feelings and emotions that I have inside! Loy Krathong was not only a great opportunity for me to dance but also to know more about Thai culture, their dance and national costumes.
What were my aims?
My aim was to perform an interesting dance and to win the House Dance Competition during Loy Krathong. I was also hoping to develop my personality, and find myself as a better communicator, risk taker and an open minded person.
What did I do, and what difficulties did I encounter?
Me and Georgi (the Nopamma for the Green House ) |
As I am the Green House captain, I had to direct a dance performance for my house. I was really nervous because I had never danced Thai dance before and I didn’t know any of the movements. But fortunately there were some talented Thai girls in our house who helped me do direct and set the dance. As was a hard work and took lot of time and effort. I thought it would be a great idea to mix Thai traditional dance with some contemporary Hip-Hop movement. Everyone in the dance group seemed to like that idea, and James volunteered to have a small solo dance. To make it a success we practiced for 3 weeks, during lunchtimes and sometimes after school.
Loy Krathong started as an amazing day, as all the people were wearing Thai costumes, there were also different food and entertainments. We danced our dance: we just get pleasure and enjoy that 5 minutes that we were on the stage. We didn’t come up as the winning group but the long applauses suggested that people liked our performance.
What did I achieve?
This event was a big opportunity for me to get better acquainted with Thai customs and traditions. I could feel that this activity helped me to develop myself as an open minded person, as from the beginning I was open to the perspectives values and traditions of Thai people. This activity also bonded me with other students, improving leadership and communication skills and be a better communicator. I was also very happy that I took the risk, and explored and eventually experienced something that was unfamiliar for me - Thai dancing.
